The more you understand about snapshots, I’m sure you will come to your own conclusions as to how and when to use them.

Re: Intel NUC7 i7 DNHE & VMWare 6.5, 6.7: Installation hangs

$

SOLVED: After sending the post, I tried to DISABLE LEGACY BOOT- and that made thant thing continuing the setup process

Update1: Now the NVME doesn't get recognized by setup. So the search continues

Update2: The standard 6.5 U2 Image works with the NVME, so my customized 6.7 Image (with the 6.5 NVME VIB) is maybe not working. I will recompose the 6.7 image again and will send an update if it worked.

Hi there,

I'm feeling sorry for answering to this old thread, but I've got the same problem here.

Brand new NUC7i5DNHE and the installation keeps haning on 'Initializing storage stack'

What I did so far:

1. Bios Update to the most recent version.

2. Tried 6.5 U2 and 6.7 U3 original Images: No success.

3. Made a custom ISO 6.7 U3 with the NVME driver from 6.5 U2 after I saw this one here: https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2019/05/quick-tip-crucial-nvme-ssd-not-recognized-by-esxi-6-7.html   also - No Success.

I can confirm that my BIOS is running in UEFI mode. I also tried it with Legacy Mode - no chance whatsoever.

Can you specify the setting's you made in detail ?

Thanks,

Kind regards,

Markus

When can we expect PCI Passthrough support in Vmware Workstation for Linux

$

Lately I got into discussion with some KVM users that KVM become so advanced now you can even run a Windows 10 guest with full pci passthrough for a modern video card like RTX2080 and play games with minimal overhead in the guest.

This got my attention because the last time I used this feature was years ago to make an old ISDN BRI card reachable directly in a KVM guest. It had it's bugs and sometimes needed restart of the whole host because the card disappeared but it worked.

Apparently there were developments in this area since then.

It's quite a shame that Vmware is not supporting this feature.

Although it is not officially supported and on the long run it can cause partial/full kernel panics I had some setups with mixed Vmware+KVM hypervisors on the same host. It is not smart because they fight over the hardware but it WORKS.

So I would really like to know if this feature is planned for Vmware because I don't want to install KVM just for this.

Thanks

If you have icloud drive and the automigrate option turned on, since it's been a while since the files were used, it's possible that OSX uploaded them to the cloud to free up space on the internal drive.

LucD,

I'm trying to fetch the storage vmtion logs to find out what caused the storage exhausted, but it throws an error. Need your help

Place brackets around the value

$events=Get-VIEvent-MaxSamples ([int]::MaxValue)

In my post Get The VMotion/SvMotion History, I created the function Get-MotionHistory.

That function accepts Days, Hours or Minutes as a parameter.
Have a look at the Sample Usage section in that post.

Tried, but it runs forever. Can it be faster ?

$events = Get-VIEvent -MaxSamples ([int]::MaxValue) -Start (Get-Date).AddDays(-1) |

where {$_.GetType().Name -eq "TaskEvent" -and $_.Info.DescriptionId -eq "VirtualMachine.relocate"}

Hello,

This link is seriously worth for vsan testing in nested environment.

Few things I would like to clarify:

>> Once I done with vsan nested configuration I would like to create hybrid link mode and migrate few VMs to AWS cloud.

So, basically I would be achieving VMC on AWS here and I don't think we would require any AD/DNS server.

PK

You could use my Get-VIEventPlus function, which is included in that post I referenced in my previous reply.
But retrieving events from vCenter is not very fast I'm afraid.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) to MacBook Pro 16" New

I am about to boot up my brand new MacBook Pro 16" and always dread transferring the machine.

I run VMWare Fusion Windows 10 at the same time.

I used the Mac to make a bootcamp win10 file when I got the MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015 originally.

I have updated the Mac15" to Catalina, and temp upgraded the VMWare to 11.5

I can open the Win10/Bootcamp.

I purchased Winclone to attempt to copy/back up the Windows file to a 1TB USB Drive

within Winclone I get this:

Anyway to just copy the bootcamp over directly? then I will use the TimeMachine to load back up the new Mac16"... download VMWare Fusion, buy 11.5...

and copy back over the bootcamp from the USB drive?

I tried a lot with Firmware Upgrade / Downgrade, Install with different images, with removing different HBA Cards, creating RAID multiple times. but same error is coming same time. I tried with Image of 6.0 its working fine. but my manager want to install 5.0 or 5.5 as we already have two host with 5.0 in our environment.

5.0 is way, way out of support. May want to tell your manager that. And afterwards, figure out how to upgrade/migrate to something supported/modern.

Hello 9990374530

With regard to what a.p. mentioned regarding 32GB being adequate - this should be sufficient, I have run similar 6.7 3-node nested configurations with 32GB in Workstation

A few things to note:

- Absolute minimum to be able to create Disk-Groups on the nodes is 4GB, any less than this and it either won't be able to create them or they may go offline with out of memory conditions - I would advise going with 6GB as minimum.

- If you are aiming to add more than 1 Disk-Group per host or (relatively) larger Disk-Groups, the hosts will require more than 4GB

- If you are planning on running a vCenter on the vSAN nodes then this will add a lot more required RAM (minimum to function is 10GB).

- *Likely* won't be able to use many other products here - last time I checked, NSX required ~30GB as minimum.

Bob
