I was reasearching how to fix this. Just picked up an XPS 13 9350 with a QHD+ screen. VMWare looked fine on my docking station attached 1080p monitors, but on the native QHD+ screen, it was just awful (buttons, menus, etc were all jacked up). The Guest VM was also not working well (Win 7, XP icons way too small).
This suggestion fixed both problems!
1) The compatibility setting fixed the menu and icon issues in the host VM software (tried the manifest trick but it didn't work, it has for other software like QuickBooks and Adobe)
2) The Stretch vs Fit Guest option worked wonders for seeing the Guest correctly (just make sure to change the guest scaling to 100% and screen resolution to 1920x1080).
