So everything works as it should when my VM window was last set to Single Window mode. I only get the crashing issue when it was last left on fullscreen. According to tech support, this is due to the low amount of RAM in my Intel Graphics combined with starting Windows 10 in fullscreen mode. Sounds reasonable enough, although resizing the single window to take up the entire screen works without crashing also. One would think the pixels used in the space of the title bar etc. wouldn't make that much difference for VRAM usage...but hey I'm just glad I have a workable routine so I won't knock it! Thanks all!
